Just a few kilometers to the north of Yumbe is one of the largest refugee settlements in the world. It is comprised of over 270,000 South Sudanese refugees fleeing the ongoing civil war there. The Ugandans are very welcoming of the refugees and many NGO’s work there to provide them with aid.

On January 18th, we spent the day in Bidi Bidi talking with women’s groups who are trying to earn a living within the settlement. We discussed their need for sewing machines, trainings on how to garden, compost, produce handicrafts and start small businesses.
