GFI was introduced to many of the women’s projects. A large group of women in the Yumbe area are keeping bees and selling the bees wax and honey. We were driven out to wooded areas where the bee hives were kept. They make their hives from hollowed out tree trunks and suspend them in the trees. They plug one end of the trunk with a round, woven plate. The bees construct their own comb framework inside the hive. When it is time to harvest the honey, they collect the combs at night when the bees are more docile.
